May is considered to be the World’s Loudest Month with over 300 bands and nearly 500,000 bands appearing at 8 various rock and metal music festivals throughout the United States.
Infest and lovehatetragedy were the soundtracks to my teenage years and I was lucky enough to see Papa Roach in 2004 before they could even sell out a 750 max capacity venue. Since then, I’ve been to countless, sold out headline shows and watched their sets on many major US rock festivals. They only get better with time.
My discovery of Amon Amarth came a few years ago when I was still new to concert photography. Back then, more time was spent browsing for inspiration rather than actually shooting. I had joined a group on Facebook called Concert photographers around the world and it suddenly exposed me to bands from across the pond that appeared to have unparalleled stage presence. Amon Amarth was one of those. Hair flips, smoke blasts, vocalist Johan Hegg supping from a drinking horn. Not to mention the iconic Viking ship. I had to shoot them.
