LATEST IN THE BLOG
Because this is my “first post” (okay, not first, just first at yet another blog attempt), I’m going to preface it by saying: It’s not a new year, or new website, just a new desire to document and share my adventures. My collection of photography has a habit of just sitting on my hard drives and never seeing the light of day, which is really a bit of a shame, so this is my effort to start changing that.
I have a huge backlog of photos I could post, but I’m going to start with something that’s actually in the works right now… a gallery of Amon Amarth photos from Carolina Rebellion this year. They look a little something like this:
My discovery of Amon Amarth came a few years ago when I was still new to concert photography. Back then, I spent more time browsing for inspiration rather than actually shooting. I had joined a group on Facebook called Concert photographers around the world and it suddenly exposed me to bands from across the pond that appeared to have unparalleled stage presence. Amon Amarth was one of those. Hair flips, smoke blasts, vocalist Johan Hegg supping from a drinking horn. Not to mention the iconic Viking ship. I had to shoot them.
The only real term that makes them sound as epic as they really are is: Viking metal (even though Hegg wouldn’t necessarily agree). Regardless, the songs are mythology themed death metal, horns are raised and there’s even a sword and shield battle… That’s close enough, right?
